Warm-Up #1- Alfred Wegener believed that all the different large landmasses were once a large piece of land known as Pangaea. He had used geographic correlations and evidence of the same species who are now separated on different land masses. The theory is known as continental drift.
Warm-Up#2- Alfred Wegener discovered that the same fossils and remains of creatures and plants were found in two separate parts of the world. This led him to believe that somehow, the continents drifted across the ocean.
Warm-Up#3- It shows scientists that the seafloor is not flat.
Warm-Up#4- seafloor spreading is the idea that the ocean floor is growing due to the constant change of the poles
Warm-Up#5- John Tuzo Wilson is famous for coming up with the idea of plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the idea that the crust is broken into about twelve sections called plates. These plates float on the asthenosphere.
Warm-Up#6- Continental/Oceanic Convergent and Oceanic/Oceanic convergent. Subduction is the process in which the denser plate slides beneath the less dense plate. The denser plate will be recycled into the asthenosphere.
Warm-Up#7- Volcanic Mountains are formed when an oceanic/oceanic boundary OR and oceanic/continental convergent. Subduction occurs on one of the plates. This forces one plate to sink.
Warm-Up#8- At position 1 there is a continental/oceanic convergent which forms a volcanic mountain range . At position 2 there is convection in the asthenosphere. At position 9 there is subduction occurring. At position 10 the crust is being recycled and made into magma. At position 13 magma is rising in the volcano which will eventually form new land. At position 8 a trench is formed . At position 6 the crust is separating in a divergent boundary forming a rift valley or a ridge.
Warm-Up#9- A is a divergent boundary. It is forming new crust and rift valleys or ridges. B is a continental oceanic convergent. This is forming volcanic mountains and trenches. The ocean plate is also being subducted. C is the convection in the atmosphere which is causing the plate to be subducted. D is an oceanic oceanic convergent which is forming trenches and volcanic islands. The more dense place is being subducted.
Warm-Up#10- a valley is being formed and the height is somewhere between 200 and 210 feet.
